Harrach? Nature Themed Vases Help ID Please
« on: June 11, 2009, 02:41:32 PM »
Hi All, These are two vases which are in the Pacific Galleries auction in Tracy Montana next weekend (June 19th 20th 21st). I have forwarded images of these to Moser and they have confirmed that they are not their work. I believe them to be Harrach, as I have found similar applied fish, and glass colors attributed to them. I have found nothing though, which has the dolphin feet by them.  I am also not familiar with any other companies who did this type of work.  My understanding is that both pieces have polished pontils, but are unmarked. I have not handled them personally, and will not be there to do so until the 17th or 18th of June.  I am curious as to any thoughts the board may have on these. I do not normally post two different images on one posting, but I believe these to be by the same company...

TIA for the help on this one..... They have asked me to help identify them, and I have gone as far as I could, so other more educated opinions are being searched out....  That would be you guys!!!

TIA,  Craig

Thanks Jindrich.....

I had tried to come up with a factory website but had been unable to do so. I have added it to my bookmarks.... I sent them an email with pics. There is not a link to anyone directly in the museum, but hope they will forward it to someone that can respond.

I will post any response I get on here....

Thanks Again!!
Craig

First one looks French to me.

A very similar vase with applied fish feet is also shown attributed to Sevres in Cappa (1998), Le Genie Verrier de l'Europe, No. 737, p.418, though I' might take this with a pinch of salt given the number of misattributions of pressed glass in the Sevres section of the book. Either way the style & colour combination look more French than Bohemian in my opinion.

Craig, your fish vase is documented as Harrach on page 64 of the Truitt's Bohemian Glass 1180-1940. It is a fairly well-known Harrach piece. I have a picture of your second vase in one of my books. I'll check to see if I can find it and let you know.

BTW, Gary Baldwin also has the blue vase with fish feet in his book Moser Artistic Glass, Ed 2 on page 153. He writes it is by Graff Harrach c. 1900. The applied glass and colors are a bit different, but the design is the same.

I am looking for the other vase. I hope I am able to find it.

I was not able to find the second vase in my books. I wouldn't doubt that your thoughts of Harrach are correct, but it would be nice to have something definite.

Thank You Anita, I really really really appreciate the effort you put in for me on this....

I am sure the second one is Harrach also, as it is quite similar to several pieces I have seen that had Harrach attributions.....  A book reference would be great, but for this purpose not necessary.

Hi Craig,

Are these your photographs? If not, do you have written permission to use them here?
