« on: June 12, 2009, 07:37:08 PM »
Hi there
I picked this piece up this morning, press moulded heavy  reg number on the base 796139, ive had a search for it and the closest number i can get is on Great glass website which is "796181 - 9    James A Jobling & Co 06-Sep-1934". 21cms tall by around 10cms in diameter
can anybody give me any other info, or a guess.. (it needs a good clean i know that  ;D)

Hi Michelle,

I don't think this is Jobling, certainly it's not shown in Baker & Crowe. As far as I know, the best resource for checking reg. numbers is the Glass Association 'Blue Book', you can order it from them here: http://www.glassassociation.org.uk/publications.htm

This looks like Libochovice, in the same series as pattern numbers 1491 and 1467. As to registration, probably Hoskins Rose have to be favourites.
Regards,
Marcus

Michelle, I checked the Blue Book for you and 796139 isn't shown there either - are you certain of the numbers? Can you get a closeup photo of them or not? (Use macro mode on your camera if you have it... usually a little flower icon shows if it's there or not.)

I would say the reg no is correct as I have had several items over the years with Rd No which are not in the books etc and they have always been similar pieces European , I thought they were imported by an English retailer for sale in the UK and one of the reasons why they are not in the main list of RD No

You are either too close for your macro to focus or you have a macro that won't focus when you zoom in. Sometimes you have to check your distance and mess about to find the right spot; it depends on your camera. You shouldn't need to change your resolution for any pictures on here. You are better off taking a high res picture and then resizing it in a picture editing programme such as Irfan view, i-Fun viewer, Photoshop/Photoshop elements or Microsoft picture manager (which you will have if you have Office). I found that if you resize so that the longest dimension is 600 pixels you have a picture that is a suitable size plus you still have your high res picture, as long as you save as.

Michelle, I think the 3rd digit is a 0 not a 6, which would make it 790139.... which is a number registered to Hoskins Rose (importers) on 8 Feb 1934. Hoskins Rose were one of the importers of Czech glassware, particularly that by Libochovice, as Marcus indicated above.

Marcus flagged up patterns 1467 & 1491 - 1467 is the same shape as yours but with alternate X and clear panels, whereas yours are all clear like the 1491 pattern  but in a different vase shape. I do agree with Marcus though, that this will be a Libochovice pattern, possibly shown in one of the catalogues which aren't publicly available.
