Father's Day Present- Chance Green Leaves(diamond)
« on: June 22, 2009, 12:38:48 AM »
After many months of searching for those rare Chance glass armed with a copy of Chance Expression but without much success.

Today (father’s day) l have struck gold at last at a Sunday market. I bought two mint condition Green Leaves diamond trays for only 50p each. The patterns on these trays are different variation of Green Leaves as shown in the book.

How many different variations are there in Green Leaves?

Happy Father’s Day!

Many thanks for showing this and to Christine for alerting me. It does demonstrate that investing in a book (not just mine) gives people the weapons to seek out and find those elusive items.

Before this pattern cropped up I had catalogued four patterns, but the appearance of this one might make a fifth, which further indicates that a sixth may yet be possible (Chance tended to produce series of patterns in sixes). However, it is possible that a different design decorated each shape, rather than having entire suites of tableware with the same pattern, although I think this is unlikely since Robbo has two circular plates (6½in and 7½in) with different patterns.

Apart from the Green Leaves pattern being most collectable, the diamond shape is also the one which I look out for: it was an early design and did not continue much into the 1960s. Needless to say I am as green as the pattern to see two in the same photo!

Ming, although you might not be aware I am currently working on Chance Additions, which is a supplement to Chance Expressions and will include all the findings made since December 2007. There are a lot. So if you can mail me a high-resolution photo of one of the dishes, for inclusion into Chance Additions, it would be most welcome. Copyright © remains with you, of course.

Thanks  Christine and David for your comments.
Yes, l am very happy with my Green Leaves. Especially with the trays in such mint condition. Almost look like it was made yesterday with not a mark on the base. Not to mention that good things come in twos.
Of course you can use the images for your new book, David. I am sending you the photos soon.

Sorry, nothing received yet. Can you resend - if the attachment exceeds 10MB then it will probably be necessary to split them over two e-mails, otherwise it could get rejected.

Not sure what happened...

Yes, that is correct. It might be best to resend it - it could always be still "in the system", but it certainly won't hurt to do this. If push comes to shove, I can always use the one of the two photos already posted, so don't worry too much.

Thanks again.
