Riihimaki ? or maybe something else. - ID = WMF
« on: June 27, 2009, 04:24:42 PM »
Hi, cant find this shape anywhere and wondering if anyone could give me any clues as to it`s origins... The base is more domed than other pieces of Riihimaki, but the top rim is niceley polished and the shape is quite, er, complex ? Also with other Riihimaki pieces the clear casing is visible at the base. I am not sure that this piece is cased clear. Any advice would be most welcome, thanks.

hi Holmgarth,

you vase was made by WMF ~1970. i´ve seen it decribed as a Cari Zalloni design, which seems
likely for it´s style, but since i don´t have any records about WMF designs of that time this
should only be treated as a possibility.

I have an identical piece in blue - with a WMF sticker.

thanks for confirming, Ivo. do you have any idea about the designer? i remember you mentioned
that WMF didn´t keep records of their post wwii designs. is there any chance to make a waterproof
attribution for this vase?

I'm pretty certain it IS by Cari Zalloni - the colour, the shape, everything's right (I have quite a few of his West German pottery designs too).  He's on Facebook I think - you could try contacting him and asking him direct perhaps?

thanks a lot, Pip. BTW i´m just back from a market with a large ´continua´ (et al.).

Holmgarth, though i must admit more and more reasons appear to join facebook at last, i´m still
not a member there. in case you are - would you mind asking him yourself?
