quality wise i have to put the MP down to 1.2mg on my camera to get the photos to upload on here (i know there is another way of doing it but i really have tried but it never uploads, so i just stick to the only way i know how). So the quality looks alot better than it appears in the picture.
The weight is the same, im going to ask the seller for measurements of the decanter to see if they are similar

the difference between a polished and a ground pontil mark does not require max resolution - your pictures are clear enough.  :thup:

doh..  sorry i thought you meant the quality of the glass itself.. I agree that the unfinished pontil does suggest lower quality.. would there be any chance that it was a second so wasnt finished?? there are a few tiny bubble in the base apart from this i cant see another reason for it to be a second though.. because to me, and by no means am i an expert it really does scream wedgwood

My clear glass one has a very fine ridge where the stopper would finish, and again, very fine horizontal polishing marks inside the neck.  What with your one having an unfinished pontil, I wonder if it's a second and didn't have a stopper?  Did Wedgwood do seconds?   :huh:

btw: I think the listing you quoted is right.  The inspiration of the stopper was from a paperweight...I remember Graham Cooley saying that at a talk once.

Here's my blue one, acid marked to base 'Wedgwood England'.  There's no marks where the stopper fits.   My clear glass one does not have the acid mark.

Wedgwood seconds (at least the paperweight animals) have finely ground but not polished pontils and they are unmarked. I don't think they were hesitant about selling seconds in the factory shop

That to me looks identical.. now i have the virtually impossible task of getting a stopper for it..i dont hold out much hope though

It's probably not worth it for a second, use it for those single roses Jon is going to buy you know you've found out about his ugly red vase

haha yeah right, after nearly 7 years, ive never got a flower of any sort, so i wont be anticipating one now.. i must say he does let me go wild with glass though and never complains, even when i spent £400 on a very rare massive blue and white swirl IOW charger

Sorry to join the discussion late.  Has anyone else got the RSW Glass Design 1954-1980 King's Lynn 2004 Exhibition pamphlet?

On page 25 there appears to be a photograph of the said piece of glass (also in blue strangely enough) next to a typical straight cylinder vase.  It does not have a stopper and the caption beneath both pieces just says "Rustic Range".

Presumably therefore it was produced with no stopper either as a carafe or specimen vase.  (Unless Graham Cooley has got his photographs/glass mixed up - which may not be an impossibility because I'm sure in my Dartington book they have photographed one of the few irish coffee glasses in existence which wasn't made by Dartington - I'm pretty sure they will find it is a Krosno one!).
