:oops: Love glass, not frantically knowledgeable BUT this is what you do with this sort of thing, unless displaying on plate hinges as already suggested. Love it by the way. :lol:

50's.  Have heavy silk, cut-chenille table cloth, with bullion fringeing, in dark green, red or brown-gold ,occasionally a french navy...all glisten with the lustre of the silk. Throw over table, permanently. PLACE platter/charger in centre. Standard lamp to side, would highlight the glister or glow in the evening. table should be placed near window, so that watery  daytime,sunlight through  lace curtains catch the dish in the day.
On special occasions cover dish with lace or paper doily on which sits mince pies or home-made shortbread. Surrounded by little, fat, etched and gold rimmed glasses, the frosting being lemon/blue or pink...for the port.
60's place charger/platter in centre of Danish teak, oiled, wood table.Frown at anyone who touches table,chairs or glassware, polished to showroom standards.ala Conran/Habitat/Heals etc.,  Ditto all else above, standard lamp though replaced by brushed stainless down lights or new, 3-legged,'woven' formed acrylic floor lamp. Usually orange with lovely glow when on, pretty awful when not on.
70's Use as cheese platter or display on wall.
after that??? they seemed to disappear from general use...being in sideboards of 'better' homes, replaced by plastic fruit gondolas inother homes.
Its beautiful..
