Oversized glass, optical with applied red rims
« on: August 04, 2009, 06:08:48 PM »
A friend needs an ID for this piece as there is considerable doubt about  its make.

Form is shaped as an oversized glass with 4 air pockets in its stem (like in the liquor caraffes) and applied molten glass lines in red. Pontil is not polished. The red lines on top and on teh foot are reasanobly neat, the one between stem and foot is again very sloppy with an overlaying finish.

Anyone recognise this one ?

Look for a small scratched sig, probably under base. Likely modern studio.

Problem with this item is that it is signed around the pontil but very unlikely authentic. It is therefore that I would like to try to see if anyone could attribute this item by shape and technique.

Why don't you just provide a picture and let us decide if it is feasible or not?

If I see coral red trailing done properly I think of Venini - even if your bowl looks more Czech than Italian, if that is at all possible. It looks as if your piece was made by a most experienced glass master who was fond of blowing bubbles....
