Studioglas Strombergshyttan signature help please
« on: August 08, 2009, 03:40:41 PM »
The base of this vase practically has an essay engraved on it, some of it is fairly obvious but I need some help making sense of it. As far as I can tell Studioglass Strombergshyttan was established in 1987 and they are still producing glass. This vase seems to commemorate a 50 year anniversary so it is not the studio's.

I think the vase is engraved: 18/11 1939 - St?ng 50 year - 18/11/1989
                               then: EH  Sp(?) Strombergshyttan

The vase itself has a double spiral of purple, red and blue lines and has trailed white glass applied around the rim and is 12cm high, 11cm diameter.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, John.

Just stumbled across an interesting bit of info, according to Fire & Sea by Leslie Pina, the studio "hosted guest designers including Eric Hoglund, Eva Englund, Bengt Edenfalk and others".
This vase has EH engraved in front of Strombergshyttan, perhaps I am clutching at straws, possibly the last designer I would have thought of for this item!

No, not yet Ivo, busy summer season maybe.....
I thought I would leave it another week or so and then email again and ask if they received the original message.

Could it be   Strong 50 year       ???????

then it's:    EH Sg Strömbergshyttan

EH stands for   Erik Höglund
Sg stands for   Studioglas

Yes, Erik Höglund was at Studioglas Strömbergshyttan.

Please note that he was at Studioglas Strömbergshyttan and not Strömbergshyttan.
These are two separate glassworks.

I have a paperweight from Studioglas Strömbergshyttan, designed by Erik Höglund.

Inscription reads:  EH 70/200 Sg Strömbergshyttan

Alongside the work involved in producing the studio's in-house collection, the three master blowers also collaborate with a number of other Swedish and international artists. The studio has, down through the years, played host to many renowned personalities such as Erik Höglund, Hertha Bengtsson, Eva Englund, Bengt Edenfalk, Björn Ekegren, Carlos Pebaque, Olaf Stevens - to mention but a few.

Ingela, thank you for your help you have made my day!

Of course the engraving Sg stands for Studioglas, I see that now, obvious once you know. ;D

I am not so sure about the 'Strong' engraving, it looks to me like it is made up of 5 letters. At present I would guess that a visitor to the glassworks may have asked for the engraving to be added (name and dates) - maybe the vase was to be a present for a 50th birthday.

The link to the photo gallery of Eric Hoglund glassware is fantastic, I have bookmarked it so I can spend hours gazing wistfully at the images. On page 6 towards the bottom there is a photo which includes two of these vases. :hiclp: I also fell in love with the cast face at the top of page 2 and the cast figure at the bottom of page 3.

So the vase is an Eric Hoglund design which has left me with a small dilemma, I was thinking of selling it but now I think I will have to keep it.

John
