AVEM Bowl?
« on: August 11, 2009, 01:56:41 AM »
I bought this as it was going cheap on ebay and the pictures were not too clear. I was hoping the, impossible to read label was A.Seguso but it turned out to have a worn AVEM circular label on it.

Alison wants to use it as a nibbles bowl and wanted the label off of it for hygiene reasons. I thought it might be handy to have it on the site so that others who collect AVEM might find it.

It is 200 x 200 (8" x 8") and weighs 780grams (1lb 11ozs)

Just as a thought, with all the work that goes into identifying pieces here shouldn't they be filed in folders named for the maker? Then others wishing to learn about particular makers can review the identification work you have done easier than doing a search.

AVeM always surprises me. The things that most companies produced were pretty predictable in the mid-20th Century. Not so for AVeM. AVeM made things that covered the whole range of looks. They were a fascinating company. And talented. Much of their work was so good that it was attributed to Dino Martens, Fratelli Toso, Barovier, Salviati, etc.  ;D I still see these misattributions on eBay.

I can't say anything about having the positively attributed things grouped. You have AVeM in the title of the thread, so people can pull it up with a search. The moderators spend a lot of time on the group already, so I wouldn't want to put anything else in their laps. So I'll stay mum and neutral.

Thanks Anita - I think I should keep my mouth shut as well. Don't want to stretch a good resource?

This bowl is very well made and apart from the bubble hole on the base it is excellent. I am surprised at the amount of AVeM that comes on ebay and most sellers assume that the label is generic.
