Hi,

I have a Franco Moretti elephant with a Bell Glass label.  I think we came to a conclusion on Fossilfly that it was a store in Venice at one time.  Is yours Gold?  It should have an address as well on it.  I will post my elephant for you to see tonight.  I was also puzzled about the Bell Glass label and that is why I asked on another forum and someone who just got back from Venice told me that she knew the area in Venice that was on the label.

Sorry I asked a stupid question whether if your label is gold or not and I just read that it is on your vase so you don't have to answer that question but I hope I have helped in some way or another.

So this labels not very common then? and does my vase give any hints as to who could have made it?    do you think theres any age to this stuff?  thanks kerryn

My label says the same thing.  I would think your vase and my elephant have some age on them.  Not sure how old but my elephant appears to be an older piece than the rest of my Moretti pieces.  I do not know when the store was in Venice but the lady I chatted to informed me it was no longer in Venice.  The lady told me she visited that area and she did not recall seeing a shop by that name.  I think Texas Silver informed me as well that sacca serenella is a district in Venice so that is how we came up that it must have been a store.  At first I thought it was an import label but after finding out that info I think it was a store in Venice that sold Murano.  That is really all I know about the label.  You are the only other person I have come across that has a label like mine so that is really all I know about it so yes, it is probably rare.

Sorry I couldn't help on the maker or anything but your vase looks to be quality made so is my elephant.  I hope I have helped in some way.  Are there any signatures on the vase?  My elephant is signed by Franco Moretti and that is the only way he could be identified.

Label may point to decorator rather than maker.

Shape of the vase appears to match those often seen with silver overlay decoration like the one on the right here:  http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/albums/userpics/10011/Picture%2048050.jpg which TC posted in this topic about my larger green overlay vase: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6455.0.html

The Morreti elephant wouldn't have had any decoration Anne  ;)

I agree it's probably a Muranese retailer and think that your vase is much more likely to be from mainland Italy rather than Murano. This mould-blown stuff is more typical of the mainland.

similar style to the middle one in the pic link ,the shop proberly specialised in the gold painted stuff as the labels say 24k oro which does make you think why a shop would use that sticker if they just bought stuff in !  maybe the shop decorated some things themselfs then .
