A Rindskopf kind of day
« on: September 12, 2009, 07:15:32 PM »
Greetings all.

I picked these two pieces up to day.

The first one, the gourd shape vase with a pulled feather design stands 8” tall.
Although I have never held one before I am confident this is Rindskopf. It is the second one that is throwing me a bit.
The pulled feather design makes me think of Rindskopf. It stands 6” tall. I provided two pics;with one showing the vase back lit.

I would appreciate a confirmation if you think I am correct especially on the 2nd piece.

Thank you.
Mac

What great finds! I haven't seen these specific vases before now, but agree that they do look like Rindskopf.

Hi

yes pretty sure that the top one is Rindskopf

As to the other -not seen that pattern anywhere before -very interesting -the applied 'feathering' in shape is very like the 'feathering' on what's sometimes called mahogany Rindskopf -but I'm never seen it on white, or quite that colourway. Sadly the shape of the vase is a bit too anonymous enough to attributed exactly to a maker.

nice pieces

Mike

I would agree that the top one is  Rindskopf.

I have seen this second piece before.  I do not remember what the attribution was or the source of the attribution.

IMHO the pulled design is a little different for Rindskopf, as most of their pulled designs, at least that I am familiar with, have more of a pulled loop look to them as opposed to striated color in a more linear pattern like this exhibits.... If that makes sense to anyone......

Glass in this base color by Rindskopf is not very common. It looks a little opalescent, and I would not rule Kralik out on this piece at all....

Send an image to Alfredo and get his opinion...

The opalescent glass also made me wonder. The design reminds me of the banded vases that Rindskopf did. These vases remind me of Kralik, but the bands are more irregular. The decoration on Mac's vase looks much like this, but without the down turn of the pattern. Hope Alfredo will have the answer.

Thank you all for your responses.
I too had a feeling that I had seen the second piece before (somewhere) but for the life of me cannot remember where. If I come up with an attribution I will report back.
Thanks.

Craig

-yes I knew what you mean about the feathering -I think you are right now I look closer.

I was beginning to think it was neither Kralik nor Rindskopf. But those bottoms have changed my mind. These 'bottoms' could easily be either Rindskopf or Kralik - but I'm not sure I've seen that kind of effect anywhere else.

Definitely time to ask Alfredo

cheers

Thanks Mike.

Now I am wondering if Pallme is a possibility.

The feathering, like Pallme's threading on this piece, is thick. Reminds me of the stripped toothpastes.

Warren has suggested Kralik. If it is Kralik, it amazes me that Kralik did such a variety of glass styles.

I have sent Alfredo an email.

Thanks again.

Heard from Alfredo. He said he had a similar piece and had it attributed to Rindskopf.
