   Hi Everyone!

I bought this pair of candlesticks yesterday along with a few other items. they are 5 1/2" tall in a very bright green glass and appear to have two uses, stood up one way they are the candlesticks, but turn them over and they can be used as a small posy holder! My initial thoughts are that they are 1920's-30's, but I'd really love to pin them down to a maker if at all possible.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give

                Warmest Wishes,

                   John

Hi John, those are lovely.    I'd guess at them being candlesticks from a trinket set but it's not one I've found anywhere else yet!  Do they glow under a blacklight? They look like they might be uranium green, if so Christine might have come across them before...
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Probably uranium, wouldn't like to swear though and I've never seen them before. What are the feet like? Are they ground or straight out of the mould? Half of me is wondering whether they are modern.

  Hi Anne & Christine,

Many thanks for your replies. I don't possess a blacklight so unfortunately I'm unable to say whether or not they glow! My initial thought was that they were part of a dressing table set, they do appear to have some age to them and when I got them they were filthy and covered in candlewax so had seen some use! I've uploaded another piccy of them for you.

Those are uranium; there is enough UV in the flash to tell. They definitely shouldn't be that way up though, the butterfly wings go down. I spend much time putting candlesticks in charity shops and at boot sales etc., the right way up.  :24:

I am forever turning round the right way those block 'sculpture' thingies, generally of a dolphin with the back of the block showing.  ::)

Sorry Christine, I forgot to answer your question about the feet  :-[  They appear to me to have come straight from the mould, though they are smooth. The reason I posted a picture of them upside down was that the lady who sold them to me said she had also used them as posy vases!

Uranium glass Butterfly Tray
« Reply #8 on: September 12, 2012, 09:00:46 AM »
Can anyone help with the ID of this fabulous tray please?   I have trawled the sites that I know about and the only thing I can add is that the textured part is like 100s and thousands.  It is also very reactive like Walther and Brockwitz pieces are.

Thanks  Markus -

There's a set with tray, single lidded pot and a pair of candlesticks curently listed on eBay at
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370668296591?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I have the owner's permission to post the photos on GMB in due course, and will do so shortly after the auction ends on 25 October 2012 (20:56:12hrs BST).
