I think it was designed to look pretty. Uses? Boy, was I tempted to to revive my career as a failed writer for Monty Python. I'll say candy and nuts, and leave it at that. Does the label say "Genuine Venetian Glass?"

Hi,

I have an astray with the same frilly bubble design.  I do not have the Venetian Glass label but saw the same ashtray on Ebay and the seller had the label on it so I know it was the same.  I love the teal color.  I do believe both of our pieces cannot be attributed to a maker at this time but I will keep my eyes peeled.

Mine is sitting on my coffee table and I have 3 large windows in my living room and when the light hits the ashtray it reminds me of the ocean.  I have enjoyed mine for a year now and it remains on my coffee table.  I get compliments all the time on it.
