Topic: Davidson Opalescent. Is it a fruit bowl?

I know this is Davidson but I was just wondering whether it was called as a fruit bowl?  It certainly works as one.

It's 9½" long x 7" wide x 2" deep.

It's my new favourite piece of glass.

What did I mean by that?

What I meant to ask was whether anyone knows whether this item was listed in any catalogue as a fruit bowl?

I do not think it was made as a fruit bowl but as a general purpose, fruit one day something else the next, the bowl was made in at least 3 sizes the smaller one only big enough for grapes or  peanuts, I have some of the smaller size next to me, that stack inside quite neatly

Roy - thanks very much for your reply.  That makes sense, of course.

We were thinking of using it as a food/fruit bowl, but were a little worried about the mentioning of cyanide as a colouring chemical.  You've gotta die of something though I suppose....

What you're thinking of is arsenic (not cyanide, which isn't the sort of chemical that would be a colorant anyway), which is used to create the white edges. Don't worry, things don't leach out of glass so as to be toxic. I bet you drink out of lead crystal glasses without thinking about it.
