lampwork oriental dragon.. quite a nice one any ideas
« on: October 20, 2009, 03:32:17 PM »
Hi all
I know these little pieces are notoriously hard to identify, but i thought i would give it a go.
He is actually a really nice one compared to some of these little animals i see.
The head, neck, tail, wings & legs are all made from a pale blue glass with white teeth, red tongue and orange claws & mohawk on his head, red eyes with black pupil
His body is made from solid clear glass with a spiral orange thread effect (a bit like latticino but not as fine)
mouth to tail he is 13.5cms long
any ideas?
many thanks
michelle

This is just a guess, but based on the crimped limbs and filigrana, I would say Chinese. The Chinese are making several pieces now that have a single filament that coils in the body.

You can keep your hopes up, Michelle, since I was just guessing. He is a good purchase for 50p, especially because he is bigger than many of the pieces that we see.

He's lovely, I'd give him a home, happily.
Nice glass is nice glass, nothing wrong with it being chinese at all.

Glassblobbery are big on dragons and might know others making them too.
