mandruzzato or ?
« on: October 25, 2009, 01:23:08 PM »
hi everyone,
i bought this bowl on eBay about a year ago, for a lovely low price.
its 16.5 cm W, and 6.0cm H.
i had the the devil of a job trying to photograph it,
because of the finish it relects light all over the place, I tried a light tent too.

what type of finish does it have.
i've trawled through all the mandruzzato literature online and have found nothing similar.
any idea's.
I love this piece, it seems to offer something new everytime i look at it

The finish is a crackle or cracked ice effect. The hot glass is plunged into cold water, which causes it to crack, and then it is reheated to seal the cracks

I've seen a lot of 'geode' type bowls but I've never seen one like this before.  Crackle seems an odd technique to use on a sommerso bowl as you kinda lose the effect of the submerged layer with it.  Thanks for showing us something different!    (unless anyone else has seen this effect before on a sommerso bowl?)  :)

i agree Max, tell you the truth,
i have sometimes wondered if it is in fact not Murano.
The way it catches light and throws the colours out is pretty nice, if i do say so myself.
its a piece i would be reluctant to part with

Definitely one to keep hold of until you can find out more about it...or enjoy permanently!

hi jerry,
thanks for putting your pics on.
obviously the same finish, yours had the inside of the bowl poloshed , whereas mine isn't
the only part of my bowl thats polished is the rim, oh and the base.

be interesting if they came from the same maker  :hiclp:
