Tall purple and blue bottle vase, possibly Dartington?
« on: October 31, 2009, 02:39:16 PM »
Hi,
another from this summers foraging about,
a tall 13 inch, vase , changes colour in a wavy line, half way up, from purple to blue,
tricky to photo.
Ive found very similar , here and there, usually Kosta or other Scandinavian companies, but
no exact match.
Any ideas , you clever lot?  ;D
Cheers
Andy

Odd as this sounds, Dartington made a very similarly shaped bottle at 13 inches, one is shown on page 13 and page 144 of Dartington Glass The First Twenty Years in a yellow/green colourway.

Nothing etched on the bottom of yours in small letters?

John

Definitely nothing on the base :'(
There are some small marks on the base on the weight bearing outer edges, about 5 each side,
looks as if it was where the hot finished glass was placed on a wire tray, also a little age wear.
My guess is circa 70s give or take a decade.
May be a clue  ::)

Cheers

Maybe not so odd, many of Frank Throwers designs were influenced by Scandinavian glass. I certainly would not discount Dartington for the time being, especially with that two colour thing going on. ;D The shape is a dead ringer....
