The Finnish glass museum "Brochures from the 50s" shows Nuutajarvi Serpentine at 42cm.

Designlasin has them in various sizes ranging from 13-15 cm. to 34, 36, 41, 42, and 44. The smallest one is unsigned.  That doesn't seem to include a 25 cm one.

I'm interested in your second link to what I presume is your vase. It looks like a Serpetiini vase, but you say it's signed Humpilla Helander. What's your take on that? I ask because I've got a piece that that looks like the real thing but it's unsigned and it's 20 cm. I didn't pay 510 pounds, btw. I wonder if it's Humpilla.

The reason why some of Olavi Helander vases resemble G. Nyman works, is that it Olavi was Gunnel's  blower in Nuutajärvi and therefore knew how technologies work.
After G. Nyman's death in 1948 O. Helander continued in Humppilan Lasi working with complex technologies.

Yes the second one is mine, around 18 cm tall.
I've seen others with the same signature up to about 24 cm tall.
I've some other humppila bits, whci you can see below the main pic - the one on the left is clearly influenced by Nyman (GN 39).
Is yours without the signature unpolished on the base ? (I have another piece similarly unfinished and unsigned).

Twave, where are the bits on designlasi - couldn't find them ?

I'm not aware that Nuujarvi made smaller Serpentini (but am prepared to be proved wrong) - I've seen what  I believe to be Nuutajarvi Serpentini in the range 33 - 46 cm.

I've looked in my Humppila book and, whilst it doesn't show this exact piece, there is a similar piece (with three ribbons) 23 cm tall.

(99% Finnish)

Interestingly this piece is also there.   220516914635 exactly the right height, so it would support the theory that not all were signed.

I would be cautious buying a piece below 33cm for £££ without a suitable provenance.

Some very useful information here. Thanks TWave and Gareth,

Gareth. I think it was me who referred to Designlasin hintakajira, the book. The 'Serptentiini' vase is on p.160. That the smallest one is unsigned is my decoding of the Finnish--translation would far too fine a word here--and should not be relied upon.

Three pictures of my piece, which is 20 cm tall. The label is mine, and the base is chamfered and polished. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I'd suggest Humppila, that other one I pointed out on Ebay isn't signed either (but polished base), but identical to one in the book.

Thanks, Gareth. I've never been convinced mine was Nyman, although I suppose it still has a pretty strong connection to her.

About the vase that was sold on eBay: there seems to be something wrong with the signature: Gunnel Nyman died in 1948, so she cannot have signed the vase in 1956!

I sincerely recommend you to use Desinglasi.com for any Finnish design glass and compare first with the items there. The website and the pictures is of a very high quality, and the contents 100% reliable.

Good advice, annamv. Desinglasi is an excellent resource. However, my understanding is that Nuutajarvi Notsjo continued to make her designs after her death, and her name on the bottom is an acknowledgment that she designed the piece, not that she signed it. I could be wrong, as I think I worked this out by translating a Finnish text, a task where I would not guarantee anything approaching approximate correctness.
