Seguso Label
« on: November 29, 2009, 02:41:03 AM »
Have just won a pair of birds, they have this Seguso label on them, can anyone tell me if they have seen this label before or is it a new one. Have searched to find similar birds, but haven't been able to find anything close.

I had a plastic label like this on a Seguso Arte Vetro swan stem mantlepiece. I believe the stem was made in the 1970s. My books are packed away (I'm moving), so I can't check Heiremans to see if the years are mentioned. I hope someone else can check to see.

Thanks Anita, really looking forward to seeing them, I thought that the label was a new one, so surprised they may be 70's. I did find the label in another post, where they thought it was possibly from the 80's.

They are elegant, aren't they? I have to defer back to you, Martin. Without my books, I am totally clueless about dates.

Sandy:

I've seen the label before but can't remember where, a not uncommon occurrence. The label is not in Heiremanns, but he does mention Seguso Arte Vetro, owned by Alberto Seguso from 1947 to 1954, with Martinuzzi artistic director until 53. Gable in Murano Magic says that the plant was acquired by Galliano Ferro in 1955. The problem for me is that the label doesn't look anything like an early 1950's label. I'll root around more in the morning.

BTW, I think the birds are lovely. Well done.

David

Thanks David, I must get Murano Magic. The label to me looked quite modern. When they arrive will put better photos up of the birds.
Cheers,
Sandy

Sandy:
I had wondered if your label was connected to Seguso Vetri D'Arte, probably because I think this (th label in the attached photo) is the label I was thinking about. But it's clearly different. My label is on a reproduction wine glass, which I'm reasonably certain was made in the 1980's. I would think that although the labels are not an exact match, this label at least tells which era your label comes from, i.e. the 1980's. I still can't find a company of that name after 1954, though. There are so many Segusos in Murano that it would not surprise me if such a company did exist in the 80's for a while. BTW, Alberto Seguso, who I mentioned in the my previous post, was the brother of Archimede Seguso.

Hi David,
I did think that the label looked more 80's. Have found this link to the same label that Soledivo had posted.

Thanks for all the info,
Sandy

There was a lot of information and confusion in the soledivo thread.  :) I have a feeling that Seguso AV is the same as Seguso VA. The Seguso story is convoluted with sales to several persons along the way. It gets mighty confusing in the 1970s-80s.
