Stripes on decanter - jug my memory
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:23:19 PM »
This decanter with issues marched in today. The issues are:
I recognise the multi colour strands rolled into the surface but I do not remember when & where.
There is one breakaway strand, is it a second?
The decanter is sanguinely heavy.

Hi Ivo,

Are you thinking Vallien? http://www.rubylane.com/shops/grapenut/item/rl203

If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

:hiclp: Great info Della, thank you so much! It seems mine is a bit heavier than the Vallien half-post with the elegant stopper, but it was definitely "inspired" by the Boda item...

I think some of the date references floating around the web for "Rainbow" as this design was called are a little wide of the mark. I think it was introduced around 1976/77 but I can't remember for certain. Original the rainbow canes were on a white ground and I think that the clear came later, but I am not 100% sure. Probably Bill would know.  ;)

Ivo:

I think you have an earlier Rainbow decanter than the one in the Della's link . I wouldn't have thought an escaping strand would make it a second, but as it's not signed, perhaps.

David

PS. Having just read Adam's post, which was made while I was writing, I'll add that I think that the 'Rainbow' series with the white background was started in 1982 and the clear in 1983.

I think you are closer to the date than I was above, but I have a feeling we were selling the white in 1981.
