Hi, I have emailed the seller with a link to the post and inviting him to join the debate, pretty hopeful as he is Scottish and a paperweight collector if not could he give a better description than I did about the centre cane.
Cheers Chris

.... Did try to send you a private message with the buyers details, but not working for me? Not trying to make it difficult for you honest  ;D  just it did not seem right to put someone's details on here.
Regards Chris

Chris, that was very reasonable to avoid putting the buyer's details in this message.

I was not expecting to see buyer's details on the board (which should be avoided) - a direct mail would have been fine: so question to the moderators - why would it not work for Chris? My mail address is not hidden - and clicking on the mail icon immediately opens a mail window for me, with the mail address already in.

That's because he tried to send a private message via the little man icon, not an email. PMs are disabled on the board

That's because he tried to send a private message via the little man icon, not an email.

Which shows then my mail address in my profile - just one mouse click more ;).

.... which is a pity  :'( ... would be useful to have this feature to contact members off the board, even if they do not want to show their mail address!

I'm wondering if anyone knows who this is by, it looks scottish to me? Any ideas?

See here for auction page.

Mod: Image replaced by a link to the auction site (as per Wuff's post below)

That signature cane in the center should give it away in a heart beat to people in the know. However I'm not in the know yet :P Can you tell what letter it's sposed to be? Looks like a T or an L to me.

The weight in general reminds me of the one I have that was debated to be either Strathearn or Early Perthshire but might have been Ysart.

Well -the centre cane is not a signature cane - it depicts a gavel.

This weight was made by Perthshire and has been discussed here previously.

The image in this thread has been taken from a Toovey's auction - where the weight is described as "made to commemorate 200 years of Phillips auctioneers": a plausible explanation of this unusual cane - I have contacted Toovey's and asked on what this explanation is based.

Version of this paperweight is in Tooveys sale on 4th November.

Mod: See recent posts above - which are now merged with the earlier thread about a similar weight. (Details of posts will be tidied up later, depending on any further input to the discussion.)

It's a Perthshire paperweight with what looks like a “T” in the center but it is actually a silhouette of a gavel or hammer made for a special order.
