Brown and Clear Vase - ID = Frantisek Zemek for Sklo Union
« on: January 18, 2010, 01:36:26 AM »
Unusual looking vase.  The height of the vase measures 14.5cm, the base 7.2cm, and the top longest point 14.5cm.  It should be noted that the pontil is flat and indents in approx. 1cm.  the underneath rim measures 0.5cm.   Can identify this particular piece?  Many thanks!

Yup, I can!

It's catalogue/pattern no. 19867, created by Frantisek Zemek for one of the Sklo Union factories. An example of this vase in a sea green colour is shown in Marcus Newhall's book, Sklo Union Art Before Industry: 20th Century Czech Pressed Glass (page 124). I have one the same sort of colour as yours.

In that case the "pontil" mark is the ground base rim, not the indented bit, as it is pressed glass
