Topic: Is this figure a Chinese copy/fake of a Murano one ?

I no nothing about Murano figures but this has fake aventurine and seems to be made from a mould !

Hi baked beans, could you take a pic of the stand to show the aventurine as it doesn't show up very well on the white lounge. I am not very familiar with figures but if it is a copy, it has been done extremely well. In my opinion i don't believe it is. Where was it purchased from if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks Kane, I've added some more photos. I've never seen fake aventurine before. Must be done with enamel paint or some kind of transfer. I thought if it was Murano it would be real aventurine. Does the figure represent a male or female .....flamenco dancer maybe. If it is a flamenco dancer then it was probably made for the tourist market in Spain in the 1960's/70's but I'm only guessing here. I bought it in a junk shop in Bristol. It is perfect with no chips or cracks but a little ware to the avenurine where it has been dusted ! The trousers and body are ribbed and cased in clear glass and there is a seam down the inner leg which would suggest the legs were made in a mould. Cheers, Mike.

I don't know what you mean by 'fake aventurine', all I can see is gold leaf applied to the surface as is widely used in Murano...

I believe your figurine is a Jordan Import Co. piece. Shannon has a picture of a figure like yours in blue at http://gallery.blancoglass.com/v/Venetian+Figurines/Boulevardiers+3.JPG.html. JICo was a company in NY that both made and imported glass from Murano. From what I've read, much of their glass is their own. They imported things, e.g. paperweights, made by other companies as well.

The female of the pair pops up occasionally on eBay in the USA. You might be able to find the other half of the pair. They are often mis-attributed to Barovier, Seguso, or Fratelli Toso, but they are pretty easy to recognize.
