Two letters today (30 January) about Duralex glass that did break.   I don't know whether letters are available online.

Reminds me of school dinners, we always had those in the school dining room!  I've one of the Davidson's/Crystolac (? right spelling ?) ones which I love as it feels so sturdy.
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Just picked up a set of 4 16cl in the local supermarket, made in France, cost €2.

Of course they are breakable. They are well toughened glasses with a design that distributes shock well and as a result are less likely to break then the normal utility glass. But it all depends on the angle at which the contact the surface. There are other toughened glasses on the market.

Adam Dodds (senior technical manager of Davidson's) has a super story about the time he was giving a talk about Davidson's glass and to demonstrate the strength of their Crystolac tumblers he threw one across the room, -  and it shattered into a thousand pieces!!  I wish I could have seen his face. If you are there, Adam, I'm sure its a better story when you tell it.

Worth mentioning that a full-page, full-colour advert for Duralex appeared in the current issue (Jan/Feb 2010, 1:132) of Tableware International.
