I am truly stumped to ID this figural jug. The glass is very smooth and heavy and the pattern of the dress etc are intricately pressed. It has a smooth pontil mark. It stands just over 6 inches tall and is a gorgeous frosted butterscotch colour

thanks for your help!:)

Mod: Original images gone, see http://www.geocities.com/carni_glass_uk_2000/Czechlady.html for a piece in the same pattern.

This piece is known in a lightly iridised cranberry coloured glass too. It was first recorded (to the best of my knowledge) by Rose Presznick in the 1960s. She gave it the name "Czechoslovakian Maid". The shape has been called a syrup pitcher.

The item has been reported in crystal (clear) glass with the moulded words Made in Czechoslovakia.

I have a cranberry iridised one, and also a matching "Czechoslovakian Man".

Cheri, I should add that I don't have proof absolute that the item is Czech. It was Mrs Presznick (in her 1960s books on Carnival and Iridescent Glass) who noted that she had seen one marked accordingly. I haven't actually seen such a mark, so I can't personally verify it.

In fact we found our Czech Lady in an antique mall just north of Chicago - and we found the Czech Man in a mall near Kansas City. It would be interesting to know if anyone has come across one anywhere else.
