Sommerso Clam Shell...Blue & Green...
« on: February 03, 2010, 08:21:34 AM »
Have a really good feeling this one is Murano. And I finally got a Clam Shell without paying too much. Purchased from a charity shop today during lunch. Lovely blue and green Sommerso cased in clear glass. The Sommerso has been done extremely well in this, I can not fault it. The green is layered evenly all around the curves to the points. Has some good wear to the bottom base, which is polished. Is 9.5cm high, approx 17cm in length and approx 10cm in width at its widest.

Any ideas on a possible maker? I am assuming late 50's to mid 60's? Many thanks.

hi Kane,
I have one of these, mine has a partial label on it which is by Oball.
Its a modern plastic label so no earlier than the 80,s
I don't know if this model of the clam was made by other makers.

They do seem to be a popular piece among the companies. Cenedese did them in different colors. I've seen some attributed to other companies as well.

We've talked about them on the board before too but I can't remember what or when! A Search for clamshell might find something....

Have found 2 so far with a labels (both different) on modernists glass site so far...link below...very nice pieces! Lovely colours on them.

Still looking, which no doubt will be futile, but you never know! Worst part about a google search, sifting through the crap! And will check the boards here on the weekend when I get some quiet time to do some research and see if anything else is posted.

-Yes, I am getting excited about a clam shell! Been waiting 8 years to get one for the cost of lunch!  :24:
