Ruby Red Ballon Glass ID Help?
« on: February 07, 2010, 11:09:18 PM »
Hi all

I have no doubt this subject must of come up loads over the years and be frustrating to pin down who made them?
Can someone shed some light on them? I have quite a few and for some strange reason I really do like them...

This one is 160mm x 120mm and looks lovely when lit up? Is there a ballon glass appreciation group going... :chky:

My other half always shouts their as cheap as chips when they come out!! I have an tall orange one listed that looks like it was made years ago and that's been guided towards Italy, they cannot all be Italian?

Kind regards

J

Impossible to pin down without a label, loads including Whitefriars and numerous Scandinavian companies sold them under there own labels or numerous different import labels.

And Czechoslovakia and Belgium. With the swirly stem I'd lean towards Italy though and a Whitefriars one would be a very deep red.

Not sure if I'd qualify as an appreciator of these but I have a blue one with a different stem and a ribbed bowl - never thought of lighting it up - perhaps I should use it as a tealight holder  http://yobunny.org.uk/gallery1/displayimage.php?pos=-179

Anne

I am not to sure many people are (appreciators) but as mentioned I like them, god knows what draws me in, maybe the age and colours used?
Along with my Murano type items I must do more research, thanks for your post.

Regards

J
