Ha, Ha, join the club.......moved here over 5 years ago and still got a loft full of boxes to empty.....and then I have to go and get addicted to glass because I found a cheap Renee Lalique plate.

I have two pieces of WMF marked "WMF, E. P. Brass, Germany". Are these new?

Also, I keep seeing aged Pewter with an angel stamped on it without the "WMF" mark. Are these fake WMF pieces?

Hi Tigerchips,
The angel mark on pewter, or tin as it is called in Holland ,has never been recognised or attributed to anyone, (although it is snapped up here in Holland for some reason). The early sign for WMF is a runninig "emu". This was discontinued after 1901 (I think...or it could be 1910) with the WMF logo (WMF the letters), whatever, WMF is highly sought after as long as the silver plate is not rubbed, with Art Nouveau pieces topping the list.

Thanks, that dates mine after 1965.

My bowl is a bit rubbed but I don't think it has much value anyway.

Nice piece Ray, Gallia Christofle as Tiger spotted - lovely to have the glass holder still intact

WMF I have had is silver plated brass or for larger pieces plated white metal, below is a 3.5" high bud vase (I think) that had a cracked glass liner, it sold well even though all the silver plating had rubbed off to reveal the brass.

Look however at the frog, it is pewter. I think they combined metals on many occasions, and the link Ray gives shows us they used a very varied combination of base metals and plating techniques. The base of this bud vase is so small they never added the logo just WMF and I think Z/G for 'Fancy Gilt' which can't be right, or can it? I think the vessel was silver and the frog gilded, but surely that is 'Parcel Gilt' - all confused and going off topic ... ahhh it did have a glass liner :oops: :lol:
