Blue pressed glass basket - any ideas on maker please?
« on: February 17, 2010, 12:41:55 PM »
Hi...I have looked on all the usual sites and can't really find this. I saw one with the same design on Glamorgan Antiques' website which was made from slag glass...it sold for £69.00, I think.

Any ideas please?

See here. http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,21532.msg121596.html#msg121596 I suspect that the original mould may not have been Davidson, as there was a period when they bought moulds from every man and his dog that was going out of business. The blue also doesn't seem very Davidson either, so perhaps the previous mould owner

Hi Christine.... I have looked at the link you suppllied, thank you. Do you have to be a member of the Pressed Glass Collectors Club to view their website, I just get a front page and no more?

Seems like the website has gone. People were having trouble getting hold the the person who ran it a while ago.

That's a shame! Any idea on the age of this basket? I'm sure it depends on who had the mould before Davidson and for how long - do you happen to know when Davidson acquired the mould?  ::)

If I remember rightly the catalogues were late 1800s. Sid will know. My speculation about that particular mould is just speculation. I do know Davidson bought in moulds but that flowery design seems uncharacteristic of the company. That pale cobalt blue is not typical but I've just looked at the cloud glass site and there is a cobalt blue Victorian goblet, so I would it was  OK to say Davidson.
