Thanks, Glen. Now I've seen it, I'm lost. I vaguely remember it from somewhere, but perhaps that is because there is a (presumably) machine made version in colourless in huge quantities at boot sales.
Even given Davidson's quirky numbering systems, surely M.T. must be a huge clue. Andy Wemyss and I went to Turnbulls when they closed c.1953, but just to look at machinery - nothing worth having. We never even considered moulds. Andy (who had the last word on such things) would never consider any mould not made by Sowerbys.
If the M.T.1 mould was really Turnbulls I wonder where it was after that?
Bernard, re some of your thoughts. Sowerby's "Sunglow" was done hot straight from the glory hole. Cold articles would not have been done. Where does cullet come into this? As mentioned already, Sowerbys would never have used a Turnbulls mould (at that time).
Glen, I agree re commercial considerations. Although all the NE firms were in an Association to deal with the glassmakers' union and we met at technical meetings and the Old Pals Act worked if we needed to borrow anything there were never, in my time, any commercial type links.
