Signature help please : Studio Glass Flower Bowl - ID = Ann Wood
« on: February 23, 2010, 11:54:42 AM »
I have recently bought a little batch of modern studio glass, some is easy, some is rather less well known, so I would be grateful if anyone can recognise the signature/style of these pieces.

this is a really nice piece of glass, a poppy head on a stacked foot, painted in iridescent colours inside the bowl, and the signature etched through the paint into the glass on one side on the inside.

Height approx 2.25 ins 50 mm, diameter at rim 2.75 ins 70 mm.
Thank you very much!

Lynne

Hi Lynne,
Ann Wood, check out this thread,
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,12656.0.html

Sadly , i must have deleted the pictures, and sold it ages ago, it was a candlestick on top of
squares of glass, just like the base of yours.

HI Andy, thanks!  Excellent to have a name to put to it.  I really like the way the flower is painted inside, very pretty.
Thank you very much!

Andy, I've found copies of those photos in an old backup file. Can I add them back onto the board in the original topic for reference please?

Andy, I've tried googling with Adam's earlier google search terms, but can only find the bird lady you found (very nice birds if you like that kind of thing, but not very glassy...) and some Victorian glass info.

Did you ever find out much about Ann Wood? I have found her mentioned at the Fenny Lodge gallery  http://www.townsinbritain.co.uk/artgalleries/fennylodgegallery.html  in the same breath as Siddy Langley and Peter Layton - do you know if she is an ex Glasshouse artist?

Thank you very much!

Sorry Lynne,
The piece i had quite a few chips and sharp edges, cut myself, so got rid of it,
(I think i ebayed it?)
I gave up searching, i decided she seemed a competant artist and forgot until now,
interesting she shares the gallery you found with such illustrious names !
Cheers
Andy
(actually i think i sold mine in a lot of bits and pieces at the local auction)

Hi, I know I'm running a little late on these posts but was only recently alerted to them.

I now know I have an Ann Wood almost identical to the one Josordoni first requested info on. It was found in Newcastle, NSW, Aust, so I always thought it was an Australian Artist.

Can anyone further enlighten me to Ann Wood's history, contact or CV? Is she a UK artist?

Thanks heaps
Steve
