Ceiling Light 30's/40's
« on: November 14, 2005, 11:11:22 PM »
I remember my mother having these type of ceiling lights in the 40's. Maybe they go back a ways from that but either way what goes round comes round and something in my childhood which was 'normal' now in my twilight becomes attractive. (maybe twilight is a bit strong!!!)
Whatever  I would like to know if a name can be put to the maker of this item before it goes onto my  stair landing.
The princely sum of £1.50 cannot be extortionate in anyones opinion and I DO like it.

Doris, I have no idea who made your shade, but we did discuss similar shades a while ago. There may be something interesting in this thread: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,1566.0.html Hope this helps. :)

I'm not sure this whether helps at all, but Australian Crown Crystal called that particular effect "flakestone" (ref: 1939, 1938 lighting catalogues). cf advertisement, bottom right:

Of course, yours won't be Australian, but I don't know whether all of those in the Crown catalogue are Australian either.

By the way, the one pictured is _not_ identical to yours. It might not be obvious from that terrible photograph.
