Early Vasart or is it Salvador Ysart?
« on: March 07, 2010, 11:32:24 AM »
I don't know why I thought of Salvador Ysart when I saw this paperweight other than it seems to be a flatter dome than most Vasart/Strathearn paperweeights I have encountered, the canes seem to be flatter set in the ground and the glass is definitely darker than the other Vasarts I have had. I could be way off the mark and am prepared to have egg on my face but wanted to put to the test all the expert help and advice I have had over the years from the Glass Message Board contributors. This was one of 20 paperweights I bought yesterday as a job lot for £35 - the others include a Strathearn Crocus, a Strathearn Kaleidoscope, a Strathearn Mini, a Strathearn Medium, a Vasart, a Caithness Mooncrystal, a Caithness Maydance and a possible Whitefriars (see my second post). Sorry - I can't help crowing 'cos I think I got a real bargain.
Regards
John

Not sure that you can say it is Salvador's but is definitely Ysart Brothers. And a very good buy for that weight alone.

I agree with "alpha", and definitely a good buy.

See this one for a similar example.

And check out the general comments in my article "Salvador Ysart & Ysart Brothers Glass Paperweights"
