An open and shut case?

Hi,
Does anybody know what an 'open and shut tot or tumbler' is? Davidson made quiet a few of them in the 19th century, but I have no idea what they are? I assume they are not the same as an 'ups'.
Also what about a lump bottom? Sounds painful, but they also made quite a few of them as well!!
Regards,
Chris
