Could anyone please tell me where/who made this, how old it probably is?

It isn't mine, but the person wanting to know is not very good with English.
Many thanks.

Hello,

A few questions:

How long has your friend owned this piece?

Where/how did they come across it?

Is the base flat and polished, if not how is it finished?

Nigel

Hi Nigel,
My friend bought the vase in Portugal 3 years ago at an antique market, at which time the dealer said that it came from Venice.
It is 29cm tall and weighs 3 kilos.
The base is polished with slight signs of wear.

Although a lot of his friends find his vase repulsive, he is fascinated by it and would love to know more about it.
Thanks.  :D

I'm sure others will take exception with me, but it doesn't look Venetian to me.

Hi,

I agree. To be honest this ones been bothering me, which is why I've delayed posting.

My thoughts run along the lines of China!! Had I not seen a number of similar items in TK Maxx in the summer and autumn of last year it would not have occured to me.

The bright colour on the inside with a sort of white 'halo' running around it is very remminiscent of those pieces. Yet the controlled colour scheme within the outer casing seems a little too sophisticated. The ones I saw ranged from badly made with badly executed colour schemes through to well made and well coloured. Most had small "Made in China" labels on a flat base.

I realise that there is a time difference, but TK Maxx's stock is generally from old ranges. Whilst this all proves nothing, it maybe an area to check out.

Good luck, Nigel

Mtarfa?

This pattern looks similar to a Mtarfa vase on this link below.

Click on "Artistic Vases", scroll to the right and there is a cylinderical vase called "Smart Serenity Vase"
http://www.mtarfaglass.com.mt/

I think the polished base would be typical of this firm. Same colours too but i'm not sure about the green interior.

 Thanks for that link Tigger :!:  There are some beautiful items there.
Of course, the vase I like the most, just has to be one of the most expensive.
