Can anyone help with this Strombergshyttan Vase?
« on: April 08, 2010, 02:04:44 AM »
I am looking for info on what I believe is a large Strombergshyttan signed vase. It is 10" tall and has a simple tulip design engraved on it, but the inside of the engraving has a detailed texture cut into it. It is signed I believe Strombergshyttan B916 +1109. Most of what I have seen has one number I don't know what the other number is for. Anyone have any idea of the age of this vase or any other info?

TIA, Bryan

You're right about it being Strombergshyttan. The "B" means vase, and 916 is the design number. At the end of 1954 the numbering was up to 642 and 972 in 1959-60, so 916 was between those years. Sorry, I don't know the exact meaning of the other set of numbers, but I'm pretty sure the numbers refer to the design of the engraving and/or engraver.

Thanks David, is there any way to determine the designer or age?

The second set of numbers does refer to the engraving, as I found out after doing a little checking. But I don't think the numbers on yours tell us anything about the designer. The designers that I know about for Strombergshyttan at the time your vase was designed are Asta Stromberg and Gunnar Nyland. The company was sold to Orrefors in 1976 and closed in 1979.

Hope this helps a little.
