I have just discovered it's marked Made in Czechoslovakia, having Googled and seen the 1994 Christie's auction description

Teschner seems to have also been a famous puppeteer http://www.khm.at/en/austrian-theatre-museum/collections/puppet-theatre-teschners-figurenspiel-puppet-and-paper-theatre/

painter, sculptor...

Norty boy JP

My brain cell does grind slowly at times. Have just realised the manufacture date must post-date the design date by at least 10 years because of the marking.

I am not sure how long the design was used, but yes, your mark would indicate at least 1919. Is it possible to get an image of the stamp on the underside. I would really love to see it.....  Is it in a rectangle? Oval? Nothing?

Loetz pieces with a "made in" provenance mark are a little unusual.....  generally they merely state "Czecho slovokia" on two lines, either in a square or an oval.

Thanks, Craig

The mark is in a circle and very sloppily applied. The made is at the top in that sort of angular font that kind of extends to match the curve while the bottom stays horizontal; the in is in the middle; and Czechoslovakia runs round the bottom. Don't know whether I'll be able to get a pic.
