It is a common Italian ashtray design. If I remember right, Fratelli Toso did some bowls shaped like this, but there may have been others as well.

Hi Keith -
Your bowl reminds me (a bit) of the one I have posted here.  Kinda looks like the same ruby red, and the bubbles kinda look the same.  Not that I can ID your piece (...lol...) BUT I just thought you might be interested in reading this other topic too since they (kinda) look a bit similar to me.  (??)  Yours has a different base and no gold (aventurine) in it -- but the bubbles and color do look similar.

Thanks Rose,have a bowl and vase like yours with inclusions,(Barovier maybe?)did wonder if this new one was from the same 'school' but the base finish is quite different,
