Scandanavian Vase, unmarked, Hadeland?
« on: March 26, 2010, 06:02:46 PM »
Hello, I recently bought this vase on eBay, and hope someone could identify the maker. It looks like a Willy Johnansson vase.

Many thanks!

Hi:

I noticed this piece on eBay as well and my first thought was a Johannson 'Atlantic' vase, but too many differences, most of all no bubbles. Of course, it could be another model, as Hadeland did produces some pieces with no signature, but my guess would be Pukeberg.

It looks very similar to a vase pictured in Smoke & Ice, page 70. The caption reads "Iittala vase designed by Timo Sarpaneva......Iittala catalogue 1972.... production number 2756....manufactured in three heights"

Can't be certain from the photos, there could be a difference in the way the rim is shaped.

Timo Sarpaneva's designs are often found unsigned but look for a faint TS on the base when you get your hands on it.

John

Looking at photos of the Atlantic vases, it seems that the rims are not as flared as this example and the bubbles run three quarters of the way up the vase while the Sarpaneva design is textured all the way up.

I think John has got it. See http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,7328.0.html

My only concern is that the height given on eBay, 6 3/8", is about 3/4" shorter than listed in Designlasin. You'll know for sure when the vase arrives.

Well spotted and good buy.

Hello, thanks again for the help. I bought it because I liked the design, and thought it would display well with my Johansson Atlantic vase.

You know, i saw this and passed on it because the pattern and proportions seemed a little wrong to me for it to be a Sarpaneva piece.  I think this is a knock off or somebody's take on the same idea.

Just my two-bits (I have been wrong before)
Rob
