The wife likes this one and it's here for keeps even if it came from China, it was cheap, but it couldn't be a Powell Whitefriars piece could it, could it please, it has the right pontil. :idea:  :)  or is that really really wishful thinking   :roll:  http://tinypic.com/fxtqpg.jpg

I also "almost" bought a Wedgwood glass elephant paperweight but was a little concerned that the end of it's trunk felt a little rough which under the magnifier glass  resembles a cut off pontil, does anyone know if that's the norm please :?:

Yes, I recently checked out some Polish Glass websites, it was quite alarming, there were a few items there that I would have sworn came from Murano.
The bowl is nice and fits the Wife's deco :!:  :!:
By the way I think I should have referred to Hogan Whitefriars not Powell  :oops:

There are usually a fair few of these for sale on eBay either as Whitefriars or Stourbridge vases and they go from anywhere between £2 and £30, depending on pure luck, I guess.

My gran used to have one and it dated from at least the mid-1970's. I always thought they were designed as lamp bases, though, for use with bottle lamp fittings...?

Definitely European. If you put 'em on ebay as Whitefriars it seems the unwary can be conned. If you say it's not Whitefriars-like I did with mine- it does not sell!!

Hi Pat,
She's found a "nice" place for it so it stay's I'm afraid. It only cost £3 in a flea market. I have a vase closing on ebay tonight that I listed here just over a week ago that's amassed a very nice £127 so far so she can have this one.Bless :!:  :roll:

I've just seen a similar vase in a charity shop. This one was clear with a white spiral. It had a Woolworths sticker on the bottom but with no country of origin.
