My glass shop, Elsecar Heritage Centre, Nr Barnsley
« on: April 15, 2010, 11:21:06 AM »
I have a unit at Elsecar Antiques centre near Barnsley, where I sell a selection of old and vintage glass, well worth a visit.  There are 2 other dedicated glass sellers in the centre, as well as a monthly antiques fair which has several glass specialist sellers attend regularly.  Lots of other attractions on the site, such as the Newcommen Beam engine, a steam railway, craft centre and childrens soft play centre as well as regular auctions and events make it a great day out for all the family.  There are also loads of other interesting places to visit in the broader area, such as Worsborough Mill, Wigfield Farm, Wentworth Woodhouse (longest country house facade in Europe), Wentworth village, The Yorkshire Mining Museum, Cannon Hall, Cawthorne village, The Yorkshire Sculpture park, Sheffield Museums including the Turner museum of Glass, Barnsley museums, etc to name but a few - why not come and stay for a week ;)

Here is a selection of the glass from my unit  http://picasaweb.google.com/mehetabella/AntiquesUnitPhotosApril2010#

Oh that's you is it. My beloved said I couldn't have the little bowl that looks like a James Powell straw opal in pic 34 when we visited last weekend  .

Lovely display. Glad your shop is far, far away from where I live.  ;)

We live in Warrington, so it's OK for a day trip: at the weekend because there was a fair as well and last time because we went to Nostell Priory as well.

I will make sure I keep well stocked up with uranium glass then :)  I have been wondering about putting in a display with a UV light to show people how it glows, but I am not sure if it is safe to have a UV light on in public, I have a vague idea it can hurt people's eyes.

The fairs are every month, and there are lots more stately homes to explore over this way :D

If anyone is visiting my unit over the next few weeks, please make allowances.  My beloved husband of 27 years passed away suddenly and totally unexpectedly on Monday, aged 51, so my shop might be a little neglected for a while.

Experience teaches that anyone who begins to collect in any field can feel a change in his soul. He becomes a joyful man filled with a deeper empathy, and a more open understanding moves his soul.
