Czechoslovakia Art Glass L&R or R&L
« on: November 23, 2005, 09:12:29 PM »
I asked about this before but now it is mine and I can see the label, I would like to know who made it?
Label is too worn to photograph but has Czechoslovakia Art Glass with L&R or R&L (the &R is inside the L)

As it was made for Scotland it could be an importer label.

Hi Frank,
It looks like a generic "Tango" vase, so Kralik or Harrachov are potential makers.
Sorry, no idea on the label, possibly an importer? Any possible clues in Pottery Trades Gazetteer?
Regards,
Marcus

Hi Frank,
At long last, a clue..... please check P&TG, for an import company in London, Lazarus and Rosenfeld, who also appear to have had an office in Sydney Australia. @ 1933.
Regards,
Marcus

In a 1907 global directory they show up only in Sydney, by 1933 UK directory they had a London Office at Bevis Marks. In 1963, UK Directory, St. Andrew St they were importers of German and Japanese pottery. Czech table and ornamental lead-crystal and soda-lime. French soda-lime table glass. In 1963 as a Pty., Ltd. still active in Sydney, but only lists what they import from the UK (Empire Porcelain) - they were in same street as in 1907 (Kent Street) but a different number.

So perhaps they started out in Australia or not in London then, I did not check other towns in the 1907

None of the above directories are in the Glass-Study yet.

Googling

They set up a pottery in Czechoslovakia in 1883 so were obviouls strongly connected there too, the pottery mark is no use but is here

For 800 plus pounds I can subscribe to a site with more data on them... perhaps I undercharge for the Glass-Study!

That is an annual fee Marcus, sufficient for 40 years in the Glass-Study  :ac1:

Lazarus and Rosenfeld were clearly quite a big company also owning the Empire pottery. They feature in Revi's American Cut and Engraved Glass, anyone got a copy?
