I got ~ ~ FREE ~ ~
« on: May 06, 2010, 07:35:49 AM »
Hi got this today from a lady getting her stuff ready for the weekend garage sale.  Picked up some collectible, and another piece of Murano (not posted yet)....and then she invited me in for coffee since it was just her and me.  She had a Murano bowl on the table and I said I liked it.  Anyways, after I paid her for the collectibles I got (some paintings, pottery, etc) she picked up this bowl and said "If I liked it, I could just have it..."  Was I happy.

It is quite large, and very heavy.  Size is about 9 inches by 11.5 inches Wide since one side is loped...and About 3 inches tall.

Believe it is amethyst color with one edge flipped over. Has lots of flecks of gold/Silver. The bottom is also polished and shows wear.   If you look at the one pic where my *dirty* thumb is (was digging in the dirt here....lol) you can see how big the bottom polished base is compared to my average sized thumb - at least I think it is an average Thumb..

Anyone advise me of date/maker/poss value of it?

I thank you for your replies.....and I am so Happy that she just gave this to me.  :chky:

I obviously can't help with ID, but I did want to say that it's a wonderfully elegant bowl...  there is something very classy about the shape and color.  LOVELY!

BTW, which neighbourhood do you live in, Rose?  If you've got such a wonderful neighbour, then maybe I should move back to Canada  ;D

(P.S. My next-door-neighbour gave me an old violin last year...  I had it for a whole 20 minutes before the fellow decided to take it back  :24:)

SK, eh?  She was just a very generous stranger, not neighbor.  I almost *choked* when she did that.  I even Text messaged my son to tell him.  I was so  :chky:  :chky:

The boom is on here...lol.  More jobs than people, and I hope more GLASS too

We Canadians are known for our big hearts, eh?  By the way, did I mention HOW MUCH I LOVE your ZBS ashtray/bowl that you posted on April 29???  Eh, did I???  ;D  (OK, I better stop because this obviously doesn't belong here, but I just couldn't resist).

lol.....here back on track for this post.

I am still  :chky: :chky: about this free piece I got today, as it is 3:18 A.M. here and I am still up.  That is how wound up I am over this piece.  I can't sleep.  It is heavy.  With my bad shoulder I could hardly hold it up to take a pic of it in the sunlight today.    It doesn't look that big in the picture, but an almost full sized pencil fits into the bottom area where it is polished....if that helps for a size comparison.

It's beautiful - no wonder you're so happy - but I hope you'll keep something prettier than pencils in it.....  :)

Yes, and ONE CORRECTION here.  There are just gold flecks in it.  I had stated before that there were gold and silver flecks -- but I was wrong.  No sure IF that makes a difference or not...

@ chopin-liszt:  I have to find a place to put it as it is too big for my glass cabinet, so it is wrapped up in paper in a box along side some other too big for my cabinet items:

~ Glass Figurine with the swirl base
~ The Horn of Plenty - I just got
~ And some other non-Murano items that will not fit either in my glass Cabinet.

I guess I know what to *ASK*  :st: when that time comes again

Not sure but it looks a bit like some Seguso Vetri D items I have seen.

However there appears to be several makers who used this shape on a casual search through images Google for murano bowls including one called Vasa??? I have not heard of before.
Clean and Crisp a Murano twist.
Archimede tops my list.

Lovely bowl antique and free is always good! SVdA or Barbini would be my guess but without a label it is hard to tell. The colour seems a bit light for a SVdA piece so I would lean towards another Murano maker in my opinion. I would assume if it was a SVdA piece the colour would be deeper with a less see through effect. Stunning bowl still

:hi: I stumbled upon this pic of another bowl (which is in no way the same shape as mine) But what caught my eye was the close resemblance to the colors inside the bowl of this one, and mine. (called Plum Opalescent) ???

E-bay Click here

Do you (kinda), in IYHO agree the color inside the bowls are similar? or not?

Thxs, FYO
