Hi all
I keep getting stuck at the same point with this one, although i think im answering my own question again, I was hoping somebody could agree/disagree
The base of the plaque is signed
CHURCHILL CENTENARY BORN 1874 R STRAND 574/5000
Now R Strand I am assuming is Rune Strand, who worked/designed for Strombergshyttan, Sea Glasbruk and Hovmantorp (are there others??)
I am also assuming this would have actually been made in 1973/74 to be released in 1974, from what i can work out R Strand was at Strombershyttan in these years, would he only have designed for one glassmakers at a time?.
The style of the writting is very much like strombergshyttan mark
So was this produced by Strombergshyttan? and does anybody have any more info on it.
Ive only managed to find one other and that had less information than i had already worked out.

Michelle,
To add to the confusion rather than provide a clear answer as to where it was made, in the book Dartington Glass, The First 20 years, these limited edition Churchill plaques are photographed on page 65 noting that they were made in 1974 possibly in Sweden and finished at Dartington.  I have seen one before on e-bay and made a note that Dartington issued them with a certificate and a velvet bag.  (Therefore, someone with a certificated example may provide the answer you are looking for!)

I don't own one, but I do have an unsigned and un-numbered plaque depicting Mozart which is pictured on page 142 of the same book.

Hope that helps!
Chris.

Hopefully somebody may be able to unravel this one a bit more then.
Is your plaque the same size and shape?? (14cms in diameter 2.75cms thick) with the flat base
many thanks

The book is often on ebay from the writer at below cover price. I suspect there aren't too many left.

I just recently came across a sculprural more than a paperweight classification of a piece of glass signed Rune Strand. I have researched online now for 3 days and still dont know if R Strand is male or female ?  I see where he or she worked along side of the great Vicke Lindstom. Rune was great at etched glass design. My piece is a column of glass 11" tall and 2 1/2 square and signed on the bottom "Strombershyttan p213-c983 R. Strand L.L.F. It has koi fish etched on 2 sides and has reeds also with eternal bubbles insde the glass which is incrediblly done and not like the usual bubbles seen in paperweights.I knew when i saw it i had a great find! I have a lot of glass and have scandinavian as well as murano and us glass collection. I have a Vicke Lindstrom signed piece, Mats Jonesson, Tyra Lundgron, etc. This is my first intro into Rune Strand. Can anyone tell me male or female? What does the L.L.F. stand for ? And how much value would it be? I will send a pic later...thanks Rudy
