« on: May 08, 2010, 04:15:01 AM »
Can anyone ID this one for me? Its very thick walled, in amber & green, very heavy for its size, about 12cms across and stands 6cms.
Unfortunatly the label is well past reading.

*Screams in frustration...

Throw a good green & amber piece in my direction and look out!  ;D Shame the label is unreadable! Can't help with an id on this as I have not seen this shape before. Absolutely beautiful and a good find.  :hiclp:

Hi Sandy:
You say - Any help would be appreciated??  I do not think the label is unreadable.....as we can clearly see that the label is *round* so that is a starting point.

LOL  :24:

But that is the truth.  The lettering might not be readable, but we know we can start to narrow it down by just the shape of the label.  I wonder IF you took some really light tracing paper, and a pencil - and put the paper over the label, and rub with the pencil on the tracing paper -- IF you would be able to pick up any of the old raised?? letter forms.

Another stupid idea here -- would other types of light sources of different color (Eg. UV, yellow, purple, blue, orange, direct sunlight, green, etc) ever help to (poss) pick up *some* letters.  Why I am thinking that is -- when you see those things like *mind teasers* thing of different colors, your eyes see something else in it due to the color.  So by trying different colors of light sources over this label (and also take a picture, as the camera sees differently than the eye) and see IF anything is readable that way.

See the idea here (scroll down):  http://brainden.com/eye-illusions.htm

Just a thought...  :ac1:

Now thats a great idea, antiquerose  The label edges have curled over into the label and I thought I may be able to even them out, but its pretty fragile, I'd hate to do more damage to it. Will give it a rub with the pencil, see if anything comes up.

Also thanks Kane, I've looked everwhere on the net for this shape, and come up with nothing.  :hb1:

I noticed the shaped of the label. Does it look like it could have had scalloped edges or do you think it was completely round?

Hi Kane, did think that it could be the round scalloped old Seguso label, maybe if I steamed it a little it might loosen up the edges enough to see if they are scalloped?

I had that same thought last night. Could be the old Seguso label or heaven forbid, the 'Generic' murano label, but the label looks to big for that. But my thoughts tend to rule out the generic part for this bowl.  ;D

I don't know about the steaming on this, maybe someone else could give a better opinion on whether this would work. I tend to leave labels alone, whether partially readable or not. Only because i am to scared to ruin the label  :spls: LOL

Totally agree, don't like doing to much with it, it is round, not like the shape of the generic label.

Hi SandyMae,

Can you determine if the label on your piece is gold or silver?  I was just curious?  I could be totally off in left field over here but I have a wild hunch.  Could your piece possibly be a Galliano Ferro piece.  Ferro made a gold and a silver label.  Here is a silver one that I found of a cute little bird:

and here are some bookends with a gold label:

I thought I would just throw this out here as a wild card.

Hi Tam Bam, It may be silver, not sure as all color is gone. Have taken a close up of the label, and has me really confused now. I can make out 2 i's and at the end I think its a large styilised E, I think at the bottom is Made in Italy, but I could be wrong.
Here's a close up of it, hope someone may recognise it, have looked through all the Murano labels, but nothing with an E.
