Clear Murano Sommerso Duck. I think.
« on: May 21, 2010, 02:51:10 AM »
This is a large, unsigned duck measuring almost exactly 12 inches (31 cm) high.  Although difficult to see in this photo, sommerso (?) interior has an unusual gauzy effect that on close inspection looks like suspended dust particles; I've never seen anything quite like it.  I'm not accustomed to seeing this form in clear glass.  Although it has a hollow base not characteristic of the Barbini and Seguso ducks of 1950s vintage, I do not believe that it is Chinese, Mexican or contemporary Murano.  Thrift store purchase, so I suppose it could be just about anything. ;) Any information would be appreciated.
Charles.
P.S. - photo is deceptive.  It's entirely clear; no gray at all.  It's not a Nason piece.

It occurs to me, the base may lend some clues as to vintage and maker.

Thanks.
