Pintray is opal glass Keith, like the one I sold recently on eBay. I have one in clear glass still too but without the coronation decal.

It should be clear glass, with sprayed white enamel to the outside.

It does have a slight 'opal' look when backlit by sunlight and has, looking through a lens,a smoother texture than the blue Britannia bowl I have

I would be very surprised if it were opal. The one I have is sprayed, although it does have a smooth velvety feel. The point is, you have to appreciate that Chance, apart from some very rare examples, exclusively pressed clear glass. This was mainly due to the production difficulties in switching colours. The only coloured domestic pressed glass I know of are some very rare examples of Spiderweb.

OK, Keith, is it an ultra-smooth (fire-polished) finish, or slightly velvety?

Bit strange this one,the inside 'wall' of the bowl I would say is velvety the inside base fire polished and the outside also fire polished ,there is a slight iridescence in some lights when using a lens

Isn't opal more of a sold white as in Cut Pearl? If it were opal wouldn't it be shiny on both sides, otherwise it would have to have been satinated. I vote for enamelled.
