Hi Leni,
I know nothing about paperweights, but I did find this and there is a small amount of info.

If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Verrucci, Bregogna weight

Recently, I was shown another weight with the "Verrucci Bregogna" label. Again, it looks to be Chinese. Size of this one was about 4.5 inch (11.5 cm) diameter. It had a not-properly-round base which was rough-ground (in one direction).

I took some poor reference photos and an image of the weight + inset for the label is at:
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-2581

Like Leni, I have tried internet searches but have come up with almost nothing about Verrucci or Bregogna. I did find an old ebay listing for a weight (which again looks to me to be Chinese) with the label and I have emailed the seller of that one for any info.

By the way, why is everything so complicated these days? When I search using ebay.co.uk or ebay.com and I set various parameters, including such things as "search title and description" and "completed listing only", the result for Verruccci Bregogna (and each word individually) is ZERO, Nowt, Nothing at All, Zilch, B**gg*r All. But when I search for the item number returned by the Google search ... there it is, a listing that completed on Aprl 30 2006. So, why does that not get found in eBay searches? Or am I just getting old and past it?

Anyway, if I get any info at all on this Verrucci label, I will pass it on.

I forgot to add that the link kindly provided by Della now shows "non-existant entry". This is also true of links I recently had from Google where the target was at "ebay.ie".

I had discussed with an eBay seller (who is also a member of the GMB) one of the items I located through a Google search for a weight with the Verrucci label.

Today, while browsing trade catalogues, I found the exact same weight (although the eBay example was better formed).
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-2638

It is featured on page 45 (part shown below) of a catalogue and had a trade number of ZH912:
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-2639

The ZH numbers were for the Zibo Zhaohai Light Industrial Products Co. Ltd. The date of the catalogue I have was 2000.

Since the eBay example of ZH912 had the Verrucci Bregogna label, this sums up the situation that at least some items with that label were imported Chinese stock.

I also seems that Bregogna is a place in the Liguria district of north-west Italy. So far, I have not located it on maps. My guess is that the label was, as Ray suggested earlier, used by a shop (or main trade outlet). Perhaps it was used specifically for tourist gift wares?
