Orrefors Geode with lid plus two others...
« on: November 30, 2005, 09:05:09 PM »
# 1. Geode bowl with lid:
Oooh!  I was just about to ask why this "Orrefors" piece doesn't have any other markings and have just done a double take on the signature...    :?  I'm not too sure that it actually says Orrefors after all.  Just taken this pic. as I'm typing this.  What do you think?  I can make out o _ _ _ f o a s.  Its quite old as can be seen on the pic. of the base, very heavy and three quarters of an inch thick.  Any ideas please?

# 2. Geometric ashtray:
This second one is very strange - positively GLOWS orange in daylight. Looking at it now in artificial light, it looks dull, as if someone has just turned the light off :? Matte orange interior and yellow polished exterior.  The orange looks a little luminous.  Any ideas why? and possible maker?  I thought it might be Czech because of its chunky geometric look.

# 3. Olive green hooped vase:
I think this might be Riihimaki.  Has this one been featured recently, or am I dreaming?

It looks very much like another one I had in the past which I saw attributed to Riihimaki.

Your comments would be much appreciated as always.

I can put your mind at rest about the Orrefors piece but I have no clue about the other ones.

Is there any reason it isn't marked with numbers?  My two other Orrefors pieces are numbered/coded.

Any ideas how old it might be Ivo?

Are you sure that the lid is original? I have a bunch of orrefors candleholders (voltives) that look exactly like this.

I'll second that -  check for colour difference in the glass or crystal.

re numbers: no reason. smaller items are either unsigned or marked "of"

Thank you Laura and Ivo for your constructive comments 8) .  Must admit I was surprised to see a lid on it when I bought it yesterday.  The lid fits like a glove and it seems to complement the shape of the bowl.

However, when the bowl and lid are placed side by side, there is a colour difference which isn't noticed when placed on top.  The bowl looks to be crystal with a silvery hue, and the lid - plain bog-standard glass.

Anyone want a lid?

Hi Anne  :)

I'm not sure about your hooped vase being Riihimaki - it could be, but it does look a bit thin, although the colour is good.  As far as I'm concerned the jury's out on that one!  OMHO though.    :?

Thanks Max 8)

Its times like this when I don't object to a bit of jury knobbling, in favour of Riihimaki
