Looking at Christine's link which has a good explanation of what the A.G. means (thanks C!  :kissy:) I also noticed in the other abbreviations that those for Czech companies show A.S.

the Czech Republic (Akciová společnost, a.s.)

so, as Inwald started out as a Czech company, would the A.S. be correct up until the time the headquarters moved to Vienna and became a joint stock company? (i.e. 1908, two years after the death of Josef Inwald himself.) [Sources: Neue Deutsche Biographie.] Or was it post-1908 and aimed at the Czech market rather than the German one? Or there might be some other reason... Glen, it is interesting as you say, does your catalogue date (or appear to date) to before 1908?

I understood it to be circa 1940 (give or take a year or two either side).

Hmmm curious, as you'd expect anything from so late to carry the company's official name (with the A.G.) wouldn't you? I wonder if it was something that was produced in Czechoslovakia and the printer "corrected" what they thought was an error? It'd not be the first time that such a thing has happened. Or maybe it was a statement of protest against the takeover of Czechoslovakia (and thus loss of identity) by the Nazis. We'll probably never know for sure?

I am also pleased to get an ID for this vase as I have had one for ages. The only thing I found was a seller on ebay selling 2 of these as Bagley 'Salisbury' which I knew it was not.
